Two Freedom High School Alumni led their schools to state titles this weekend: J.K. Adkins with Mt. Airy (repeating from last year) and Joe Glass with Hickory.
Now the Freedom coaching job is open-again.
Why do we have such difficulty finding a coach who can build this program up and stick around to lead us to success? I haven't even mentioned Albert Reid from Bunker Hill or Chris Powell from Draughn, who have both also had playoff success.
The formula here seems simple. Find an up and coming coach who has had some success elsewhere and who has ties to our community and give him the job. After that, give him a few years to build the program up and show progress, then reevaluate.
The Patriots have made it past the second round of the state playoffs exactly twice in school history-50 years or half a century. What we have been doing hasn't been working, it's time for the administration to look for the kind of coach who can take the program to sustained success.
